press play
Liner Notes · Side A
Happy Birthday Beautiful Kay,
This is a mixtape fifteen years in the making. Every song on here is a moment in time. The Japanese ichi go ichi e / One time, one meeting. The fleeting meaning of life. Moments.
But before you press play — or if you already have — I need to say some things, because you've been there for so much in my life and I want you to know what I see when I look at you.
You're one of the few people who's evolved at the same time as me. Every phase, every shift, every version, you've been right there moving in parallel. You don't see how incredibly smart, talented and deep YOU are. Your brain is wild and beautiful.
The way you piece 50 things together, the way you read people, the empathy you have, the work you've taught yourself, the way you can just stalk down Dave Echo. You are one of the few people I genuinely see changing the world and doing big things. I'm not saying that as a birthday card line, I mean it. You have all the skills, the will, the soul for it.
The universe is not against you Dude. If anything it's rooting for you. I know it doesn't always feel that way and I know this year has thrown a fucking truckload at you. But that's life being life, not life being personal. The shit that used to keep you up at night, the relationship and family chaos, all of it, you've actually moved through and shifted it. You changed your world and your world changed around you. It's okay to breathe out and see the whole picture. You've fought through so much. And peace, is here.
And then even when it's dark and hard — cause it's inevitable — see the light. You are it.
Side A of our music, the years we met each other, found each other, the years we found ourselves, we broke and put ourselves back together, kept the good things and slowly let go of the bad, the years that made us stronger than before.
Side B will be fucking epic. This is the foundation. And I can't wait for what's next. You were right about music. It does find you. And I'm fucking grateful that your music found me.
